It’s okay to be still.
Indulge the slow walk to the compost,
the thinning blades of grass before a cut,
the warm stone,
the curl against your son’s brow, his beaded forehead.
It’s okay to let the sun fuel you and fatigue you, in alternating paces,
these last days of summer.
Don’t look to your left, to your right.
It’s your course.
You win when no one else is watching.
